Lacrosse is considered to be the United States first sport, it dates back to the 1400’s of years when the Native Americans would play it. The game was used to resolve conflicts between tribes, as well as prepare men for war. As many as 1000 Indians from each tribe would play at a time, the fields were miles long, as sometimes the games would last for days at a time. As you can tell from the picture above, they played the sport very brutally. During the game it was very common for fights to break out, and sometimes people would be killed during the game. Playing for your tribe was highly valued because the winners were supposed to be chosen by god. Lacrosse isn’t popular throughout the United States as other sports, such as football and basketball. Lacrosse is most popular in Colleges along the East Coast. Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the United States, in the past decade participation has tripled. I’m sure this increase will continue for the next couple of years, and I expect it to become more popular in the mid-west among high schools.
